JIHYUN LEE
Jihyun Lee (b. 1979, Seoul, Korea) is a visual artist based out of New Haven, CT. She paints glimpses of memories, thoughts, and dreams, layering them to create visual and psychological depth; her paintings and drawings explore the in-between states of reverie and reality. Lee’s images and gestures invite the audience to walk into this unknown depth and insert their own life experiences in between the folds. In doing so, the audience may come across insights within her work and generate their own stories.
Lee’s paintings bridge dream and reality, capturing her fleeting thoughts, observations, and emotions on the canvas. Her paintings open up spaces for the viewer to imagine what mental and physical landscapes can look like, and how they are interconnected.
HAVENLY
25 Temple Street, New Haven, CT 06510
Havenly breaks out of models of integration that prioritize rapid employment and economic self-sufficiency over longer-term education and political consciousness development. Their community café serves as a learning space, source of income and organizing network for refugee women.
In 2018, Havenly started as a food business and designed a job training program for refugee and immigrant women stuck in cycles of poverty. After 2 years of working out of borrowed kitchen spaces, Havenly opened its own cafe and training center in Downtown New Haven, becoming a home for refugee and immigrant women.
