vision

we aim to create a green space that centers arts-healing experience open to all residents in New Haven. Set to be home to a new sustainable arts flex space, HAP will serve to both amplify stories of communities most impacted by the pandemic and to support local artists through commissioned exhibitions and programming.

mission

HAP’s mission is to further New Haven’s creative economy by establishing a platform that publicly engages the local arts as a tool for collective healing and space-making in a transitory post-pandemic economy. The location and program is guided by our socioeconomic research to ensure residents have a stake in their public space and artists are at the forefront of a growing local arts-economy. Our Community Advisory Board of local stakeholders and residents engages in park design and local programming decisions.

values

  • We believe that art has the power to heal and bring people together, which is why we are committed to creating an environment where community members can experience the transformative benefits of the arts. Through our creative programming and exhibitions, we aim to push boundaries and spark progressivism within our community.

  • We understand the importance of engaging with the community and being responsive to their needs. That's why we are dedicated to creating a space that encourages active participation and fosters a sense of belonging for all residents.

  • We believe in empowering the community to have a say in the allocation of its resources. That's why we are committed to implementing participatory budgeting practices, giving residents the opportunity to have a direct impact on the decisions that shape their community.

  • We recognize that systemic barriers have historically prevented certain communities from accessing resources and opportunities. That's why we are dedicated to creating an environment of equity and empowerment, ensuring that all residents have the chance to thrive and reach their full potential.

  • We understand the importance of creating a sustainable future for our community and the planet. That's why we are committed to incorporating sustainable practices into the design and development of the park, ensuring that it will be a thriving and vibrant space for generations to come.

approach

  • Design

HAP is a collaborative effort between Atelier Cho Thompson and a Community Advisory Board made up of local residents who guide the design and location of the park, shaped and conceptualized by the valuable insights gained from the Diary Disk project.

HAP will be a symbol of hope and a catalyst for change, bringing the community together through art and creating a space for healing and growth.

  • Community Partnerships

Become a partner! We invite organizations and businesses to join us as partners and funders in this endeavor. In getting closer to the Haven Arts Park, we’re closely partnered with the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the City of New Haven, Yale University, and more!

Your support will help us create a space where local artists can showcase their talents, and where residents can experience the arts through curated exhibitions and public programming events. Together, we can make the Haven Arts Park a reality, and work towards creating a more equitable and just society for all in New Haven!
